Sheryl Lau – Associate

Sheryl was called to the Ontario bar in 2024 after completing her articles of clerkship at a local litigation firm, where she gained hands-on experience in wills and estate, employment, and commercial matters. Prior to joining Jordan Honickman Barristers, Sheryl worked at a boutique firm in Toronto, where she provided strategic planning and dispute resolution advice on indirect tax, customs, and trade matters, and contributed to various Canadian legal publications.
As an associate at Jordan Honickman Barristers, Sheryl leverages her diverse legal background and client-focused approach to provide clear, strategic counsel and practical solutions. She is dedicated to achieving optimal outcomes for her clients and approaches complex legal issues with a thoughtful, analytical mindset.
Outside of her practice, Sheryl enjoys bouldering, solving crossword and sudoku puzzles, and exploring Toronto’s vibrant cultural scene. She is often found attending concerts at the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and visiting local art exhibitions.
Education and Professional Involvement
Sheryl holds an LLB with Honours from Durham University and a Global Professional Master of Laws (GPLLM) from the University of Toronto, where she ranked among the top five in her class in Tort Law. She served as a teaching assistant to Professor Daniel Tsai at the University of Toronto, where she guided students in exploring the intersection of law, technology, and culture, and facilitated discussions on the evolving role of law in the digital age.
Before starting her legal career in Canada, Sheryl interned at The High Court of Hong Kong with the Honourable Mr. Justice Barnabus Fung, where she gained insight into cross-jurisdictional legal frameworks and honed her ability to approach complex legal issues from a global perspective.
Sheryl has also contributed to the UK Society for Computers and Law (SCL), co-launching the “Making Sense of Tech Law” podcast, which was recognised among the Top 50 for Tech News podcasts in the UK.
She is an active member of the Ontario Bar Association and the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers.
